ABOUT US
We are specialists in sound control, originating from our work designing and building recording studios, working with leading radio stations, building podcast facilities as well as designing ‘audio-first’ spaces for a range of companies. With the rise of online meetings and open plan offices we are now applying our expertise to office spaces and other commercial areas.
URBAN ACOUSITCS’ mission is to create beautiful sound environments, in keeping with the aesthetic of any office, hotel or other commercial setting.
about acoustics
Modern interior design often sees the removal of soft furnishings and carpets in offices, restaurants and bars, which offers a cleaner environment, but leads to the unseen – but quite clearly heard – problems of sound reflection and noise laddering.
Have you ever wondered why at the end the day you have a headache, it’s not just looking at the screen all day, a big part of this is your acoustic environment. Having a reflective office or working space causes long reverb time, which in turn creates a noisy environment, as we all speak louder and louder to be heard.
Similarly if you ever been into a bar or restaurant and had to shout at the person next to you to be heard, this will be two things; 1- the music is too loud, and 2- the acoustics of the room are untreated.
A reflective room causes sounds to bounce off hard surfaces with nowhere to be absorbed, hence the need for everyone in the room to increase their speaking volume to be heard. The remedy is to absorb and defuse sound, which is where URBAN ACOUSTICS comes in.
Conversely in very quiet spaces where people are reluctant to have conversations in case they create disturbance or are overheard, sound masking can make all the difference. We assess the space and treat the room’s audio amplification issues, creating privacy.
